Final idea

I chose my best parts from both mood boards to create my final idea. I used different scales & mirrored effect with the lamposts to be more creative. I also used different coloues & medias. I used oil paints, watercolours, coloured pencil. I like the colours i have used & the effect of paint running down the page. I also like the simplicity of my design.

Visual sheet 2

My second visual sheet i took things i liked & multiplied them in different colours & sizes to create a more interesting pattern, i used different medias such as watercolours, oil paints, soft pastels, coloured pencils & fine liner & water.

Contempary critical study

My contempary critical study is leonid afremov because i love his work. I like the bold colours and how he blobs paint around. I like the rain effect he has and his paintings are just alot of fun. The media he uses is oil paints.
I recreated his work around the original picture using oil paints.

Visual sheet 1

On my visual sheet i have taken parts i like from my historical and contempary mood board to creat something new, i swapped some colours around to make it different, next time i could use different scales & repeat things to make a pattern.

Historical critical study

My historical critical study is william morris, he used watercolours as his media so that is what i have used to replicate his work.

Observational drawing and Mark-making project evaluation

What drawing and mark-making techniques have you learnt about in this project? Are any techniques new to you?
This project we learnt techniques such as, shading, cross hatching, dotting, taking back out with a rubber, different depth line drawings. From these techniques dotting and cross hatching are new to me. I am pleased I learnt these techniques as they are more interesting that just tonal shading.
How did you use and apply media to explore drawing and mark- making techniques?
We used different surfaces such as newspaper and parcel, coloured inks, acrylic and brusho ink. We used coloured pencil to draw over the top of the collage, coloured inks and acrylic, I found the acrylic quite hard because it was lumpy and bumpy and hard to colour neatly, i didn't like the effect. I enjoyed the collage because it looked really effective with writing and different coloured papers to draw on top of, it was quite hard to see what you were drawing sometimes but it looked good in the end. I haven’t used bleach on brusho inks yet but I believe it will be quite hard to do, but will look really effective in the end.

How effective do you think each of your 4 studies on different backgrounds has been?
I think they have been really effective. I especially liked drawing on different textures. In my opinion I think the collage is the most effective because it has different textures and different coloured papers, I also like the writing and musical notes behind the coloured pencil drawing. It gives it a fuller effect than what it would of the drawing was alone, also how the pencil changes over different papers, it’s like a jigsaw puzzle. The coloured inks give my drawing a softer effect to it; I like how you can still see some of the ink behind the colours so it’s almost a transparent look. I don’t really like the effect of the acrylic because it looks messy, the colouring isn’t neat and the lines are wobbly. I think that the mark-making with bleach on brusho inks will look really effective because you are taking out colour instead of adding it.

What is effective about your sgraffito drawing?
I haven’t don’t my sgraffito yet but when it is don’t I think it will be effective because we are scratching back to the colours underneath and they will really stand out against the black.
How successful do you think your homework studies are? Did you spend enough time on them?
I think I spent a decent amount of time on my homework, but I know I have a lot more to learn so there is room for improvement. I think my homework is quite successful, with a bit more practice I know it can be better.
Do you feel you have improved your observational drawing skills? How?
I feel I have improved on my observational drawings as now I know how to look at things and add shading and highlights in the correct places to make them 3dimentional, I add different shades of colour to give the objects depth as they are not a block colour. I have learnt about scale and to use different led’s when shading. Also it is important to look at the light and the shadows.

How well did you manage your time throughout this project?
I think I have managed my time well, I focus on my work in class and what I don’t finish I take home. I spent reasonable amounts of time on my homework to get it to the best I can do. I hand all my work in on time meeting deadlines.
Do you feel you have produced the best drawing and mark-making outcomes possible within the time frame?
I do believe that all my work is to the best standard I am capable of at the moment, apart from my first observational drawing that I couldn’t get right but I have progressed and developed my drawing skills from then.

Are there any other drawings or mark making techniques you’d like to explore?
I would like to explore the art of scumbling as it looks interesting and an easy way to create an effective piece of art.

Discuss your overall thoughts on the project.

Overall I have really enjoyed this project; I enjoyed learning new things and discovering different techniques of drawing and mark-making. I feel that my drawing skills have improved a lot from the

beginning so now I have a wider range of skills and techniques to put into further projects. I am proud of myself for trying new things and enjoying them.

Visual sheet

I took drawings from my mood board & coppied then to my visual sheet, i drew some multiple times & experimented with scale. The medias i used were water colours/pencils/oil pastels/soft pastels & fineliner. I put water onto to fineliner to let it bleed. I like this effect as i think it gives the image more depth to it, & the different use of scale makes it more interesting.

Mood board

For my mood board i did primary reasurch by using my phone to take photos of different workshops.
I then streatched some paper onto
A board and created a background with brusho inks, i don't like my background because its too dark
And the images i drew don't stand out. The media i used was pencil, water colours, acrylic, soft pastels, brusho inks & black fine liner. Next time i need to make my background not as dark & experiment with different scales & textures. The point of a mood board is to get idead & inspiration for more ideas from them.

Homework

I had to draw and enlarge the inside of my kitchen cupboard, i used the technique of shading. Using diferent ledded pencil for different tones.

Ceramics

I made a 3D danger sign, using the techniques of blending & i used inspiration from my mood board. I don't like that its uneven, so that is something i need to work on.

First bowls in ceramics

Learnt the different techniques of using clay & how to use different tools to get the best outcome.
